If you are coming from the Ring Road end of Downend, the A4174 down to the Staple Hill turn-off is usually quicker than cutting through the residential streets, particularly in the late afternoon when Downend Road backs up around the school gates.

There is no car park at the surgery, so aim for the public parking off the High Street or one of the side roads running behind the parade. Most Downend patients find a space without much trouble; the busiest window is mid-morning on a Saturday.

Buses and cycling from Downend

The bus corridor between Downend and Bristol city centre runs directly through Staple Hill, so a single service drops you within a few steps of our door. For patients who no longer drive, that one-bus journey is often the deciding factor in choosing us over somewhere that needs a change in the centre.

Cycling is straightforward too. From the western side of Downend you can drop onto the Bristol & Bath Railway Path and follow it round to Staple Hill without touching the main road, which is the route most of our younger Downend patients use in the lighter months.

If someone is travelling in from further afield to bring a family member, Bristol Parkway is the nearest mainline station and is a short taxi ride from both Downend and the practice.

No private car park — use the public parking off Staple Hill High Street or the residential streets behind the shops, both a couple of minutes' walk from the door.

Your first visit

Expect thirty to forty-five minutes for a first appointment. We go through your medical and dental history, examine everything properly including gums and soft tissues, and take X-rays only where they will genuinely tell us something.

Afterwards we sit and explain what we have found, with photographs and scans on the screen so you are not being asked to take our word for it. Any treatment comes with a written plan and fixed prices, handed to you before anything is booked.
