A number of our Frenchay patients work at or around the hospital and university campuses, which means unsociable hours and very little tolerance for appointments that overrun. We keep to time, and we offer evening slots for people whose shifts make daytime impossible.

Driving from Frenchay

From Frenchay Common, head towards Frenchay Park Road or Beckspool Road and pick up the route east towards Downend, then follow Broad Street down into Staple Hill High Street. We are on the parade at numbers 88-90.

Coming from the hospital side, the Ring Road is often quicker: join the A4174 and come off at the Staple Hill exit. Either way it is around eight minutes without heavy traffic.

We do not have parking on site. Use the public parking off the High Street or the residential roads behind the shops — both are a short walk and are usually straightforward outside Saturday mornings.

Buses and cycling from Frenchay

Bus links from Frenchay run towards Downend and Fishponds, from which Staple Hill is a short continuation. It is not the most direct public transport journey in our area, so most Frenchay patients drive or cycle.

Cycling is a good option here. Routes from Frenchay connect to the Bristol & Bath Railway Path, which then runs directly to Staple Hill on a flat, traffic-free surface.

Bristol Parkway is around ten minutes away by car and is the obvious station for anyone travelling in from outside the city.

No on-site parking. Public parking off Staple Hill High Street and the side streets behind the parade are both within a couple of minutes' walk.

Your first visit

Thirty to forty-five minutes, and no rush. We take a full medical and dental history, examine teeth, gums and soft tissues, and take X-rays where they are clinically warranted.

You will see what we see — photographs and scans on the screen — and get a written plan with fixed prices if treatment is needed. We prioritise it, so it is clear what is urgent and what is optional.

If you are transferring from another practice, bring or arrange to send your recent records and X-rays. It saves repeating radiographs unnecessarily.

Serving Frenchay and the hospital campus

Frenchay's population divides roughly into long-standing village households and people connected with the healthcare and university campuses nearby. Both groups tend to be well informed and ask direct clinical questions, which suits how we like to work — we would far rather explain the reasoning behind a recommendation than expect it to be accepted on authority.

The campus connection also affects timing. Shift patterns mean early and late appointments are in demand, and cancellations sometimes happen at short notice; we try to be flexible about rebooking rather than penalising people for a job that does not run to schedule.

For village residents, particularly older ones, the appeal is a practice that is close enough to reach easily but comprehensive enough that nothing needs referring elsewhere. Implants, sedation, endodontics and orthodontics are all done in-house.
